LOCAL RULES (updated April 12, 2007)
PLEASE REFER TO LEAGUE RULES TAB FOR GENERAL RULES.
AA specific game rules:
· The coach (or designated volunteer) of the team at bat runs the batting machine. Defensive team supplies a player-catcher (not a coach). Each player will get a maximum of 8 pitched balls. If the player hasn’t hit fairly after the 8th ball, an out will be recorded and the player will return to the bench.
· Teams bat through the order, but only nine players in the field at a time for defense. Coaches should rotate batting orders each game so no one always bats last/first.
· Total time for game, including any warm-up, is 2 hours. There is no set number of innings – but a new inning should not start unless both coaches feel the full inning can be completed before time expires. Innings will end the earlier of 3 outs or scoring 6 runs.
· A batter can advance only one base for a ball hit in the infield. No extra bases on overthrows – we want players to attempt the throw.
· If a batter/runner is out on base they go off the field. Coaches, please enforce this.
· On balls hit to the outfield, the runner must stop at the base he is approaching after the ball enters the diamond (e.g., if the runner is past second base and before third when ball enters infield, he may advance to third). The first and third base coaches will control this.
· Adults only for base coaches.
· AA league players must be rotated through all positions, taking safety/ability into account. All players must play equal time. Please keep in mind this is an instructional league, where we want the focus on fun and instruction vs. winning and losing.
· A batter will not be called out if fouls off the final pitch.
