Weston Little League
Youth Umpire Program
League Objectives:
Provide a program that will deepen the Little League experience for graduates of the Weston Little League baseball program. The Youth Umpire program objectives are:
Ø provide a setting for youths to serve as a role model for the younger players
Ø provide an opportunity to serve their community
Ø deepen their knowledge of baseball
Ø provide a sense of responsibility and accomplishment (as for most of the participants this will be their first paid job)
Requirements:
Ø This program is for youths 13 to 18 years old who have prior experience playing in Little League Baseball.
Ø All participants must attend at least 6 hours of training from a certified umpire designated by the Weston Little League Board.
Ø Umpires that work behind the plate must complete training and pass a field and written exam.
Training Protocol:
After a youth has contacted the Little League President and has expressed interest in participating in program the following will occur:

Training times will be set with a designated professional umpire and candidate must attend all trainings. Total training time will be 6 hours.

After initial training is complete, the youth umpire will be assigned a game to umpire under the supervision of a professional umpire. This is part of the training procedure and the youth umpire will not be monetarily compensated for his first full game.

The professional umpire will provide feedback regarding training candidate to the umpire coordinator.

Once steps 1-3 are complete then the youth will be eligible to umpire games for the league.
